How to mix Multi Finish Plaster, Board Finish or Skim.

Always read the manufacturers instructions.

Fill the mixing bucket with the appropriate amount of clean, fresh and cool water.

Pour in about 2/3 of the required powder and mix.

Mix until all the powder has been dissolved.

In smaller quantities start to add the remaining powder and mix.

Using the bucket trowel, clean round the edge of the bucket where dry powder will have built up.

Scrape this off the trowel returning the residue into the mix and continue mixing until any dry beads of plaster have been dispersed.

Add and mix small amounts of plaster, sprinkled upon the surface until the plaster no longer looks wet on the surface.

The texture should be creamy, able to flow but not runny. It should not be so stuff that it creates peaks.

Remember that as soon as the powder is in the water the setting process has already started so mix promptly. Do not over mix as introducing too much heat will accelerate the setting process reducing the time that you have to work with the plaster.

Once the plaster is mixed and transferred to the spot board clean out the bucket ready for the next mix.

You will have around 15 minutes to use the plaster from your spot board. Overall finishing time is 90 – 120 minutes depending upon temperature, surface suction and original mix consistency.

How to mix bonding plaster

Always read the manufacturers instructions.

The process is the same as for the multifinish however the consistency should be stiff enough that when you run the top half of the bucket trowel through the mix, it retains the gap created by the passage of the bucket trowel through the plaster. Once mixed you will have around 15 minutes to work with the bonding from you spot board.

The process is the same for bonding. The consistency should be similar to bonding also. Once mixed you will have on average 60 minutes to work with the adhesive from the spot board.
