Mill House Project

The DIY School is committed to helping our community and is proud to support the Mill House Project in conjunction with the owners of Meadow Mill and Roger Hannah & Co Property Managers

Construction Classes for 14-16 year olds
The Mill House Project

A non for profit organisation

The project is aimed at giving young people aged 14-16 (some of whom may be disengaged from education) the opportunity to access and gain a wide range of construction skills, and accreditation from their experience.
The project provides:
The Mill House project is able to provide an interesting and meaningful experience for young people where they can develop skills in a controlled safe environment. The experience  develops confidence, self esteem and a sense of achievement. This helps young people to develop and assist them to progress onto further education, training, and employment/apprenticeships.
The project highlights and promotes the value of the Grade II listed victorian Meadow Mill premises, which the owners and the property managing company, Roger Hannah & Co have provided to the project. Through opportunities such as presentation events and press releases and other media opportunities, the project will help develop and strengthen  significant benefits to the community as a whole by extending staff employment opportunities along with helping young people to move into positive futures.
Construction skills training:
To meet the requirements of the EDEXEL construction qualifications and to ensure a feeling of achievement/making a difference we wish to enhance the construction programme by allowing small groups of young people to enhance their newly developed skills by working on carefully selected projects in the community.
These projects are identified by Roger Hannah & Co, the managing agents and the Mill House Project manager. The projects range in the newly found technical skills the students have acquired and can be from repairing broken windows to refurbishing parts of the Mill so new start up companies have economical premises to help them establish their business dreams.
Young people will work on these projects under suitably qualified/experienced supervision with the aim of renovating/developing the Meadow Mill Site.
Accreditation
The Mill House project will run EDEXEL construction skills qualifications ranging from entry level to BTEC level 1 over a 12 month period. For the current year 11 project the learners will work towards achieving level 1 units.
